Congress Sends Economic Stimulus Package to President

On February 7, the Senate passed, 81-16, the Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act (H.R. 5140); the House passed the measure, 380-34, later the same day.

Week of February 4-8, 2008

Floor Action:

Economy- On February 7, the Senate passed, 81-16, the Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act (H.R. 5140); the House passed the measure, 380-34, later the same day.

Education- On February 6, the House passed, 354-58, the College Opportunity and Affordability Act (H.R. 4137), a bill to reauthorize the Higher Education Act (P.L. 105-244).

Health- On February 6, the House approved, 384-23, H.R. 4848, a bill that would extend, until December 31, 2008, a law (P.L. 104-204) that prohibits health plans offering medical and surgical benefits from imposing different lifetime or annual limits on mental health coverage.

Hearings:

Business- On February 7, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations held a hearing on the underrepresentation of minorities and women in the financial services industry.
